Lots of Chris Doyle

Kink recently revamped their site which has a some good Doyle news, photos, etc. Shoot on over there and check it out. Square One has a new Chris Doyle T-shirt out and it looks sick. To top it off Duo is represented on it as well catching some promo on Doyle’s dome. Last but not least, Chris took some time to write a short recap of his weekend in Whistler at the Redbull Elevation contest. Read on for his account of the weekend and some interesting photos to say the least.

“You should know by now that the Red Bull “Elevation” contest is the highest echelon of dirt jumping contests. If you weren’t aware, check for yourself at their site, Red Bull Elevation. The jumps, the location, the riders, the parties, and the crowd are second to none. There were 34 invited riders with 12 making it to the finals. In the finals all 12 riders got 5 runs, your three highest scores are averaged and you get your results. Like I said before, everyone got five runs so if I give you everyone’s runs and trick lists you’d likely pass out on your keyboard out of sheer boredom. However, here are a few highlights from my third annual trip to Whistler.

- Red Bull rented out an entire hotel in Whistler, probably the most modern hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Plus, as a gift from Red Bull, in the room hung custom robes with the riders name on it.

- Brian Foster. Best style, best lines, and even brought back the superman-one hander at the request of the northwest boys. BF celebrated his 35th birthday by getting himself a spot on the podium in the form of 3rd place. (Nyquist won and Duo was represented on the podium in the form of the one and only Corey Bohan in second).

- Tossing the pigskin with Lonnie Paxton at a Red Bull pool party. Lonnie Plays in the NFL for the New England Patriots and has three super bowl rings. I’ve never played football with someone who plays in the NFL so naturally I got a little nervous. I overshot my target by about ten feet hitting two girls, one in the shoulder and one in the neck. I think they were bummed, especially since they were on the prowl for dudes and I embarrassed them.

OK, I know I only listed three things but as I look back, those are the things that stand out the most to me. And, if you happen to be a contest promoter or something along those lines, this is the model of what a dirt contest should be. Big shout outs to Jay Miron, Red Bull, and all of the people who made this contest happen.

Oh yeah, I brought my camera but true to form, I barely used it. One of the photos is of the dope hotel that Red Bull put us up in. The other two are some that I took on my way home from Vancouver. One is of a foreigner who just arrived at the Vancouver airport wearing the latest in Nazi hip-hop fashion. The other photo I took was in the San Francisco airport on a five-hour layover. In the SF airport cops patrol on mountain bikes and, needless to say, look like the biggest dorks ever. This photo is of a cop hitting on two young girls as they waited to get on their flight.”
